HVAC and air conditioning

Air conditioning, heat pumps and ventilation: comfort all year round, with equipment chosen for your space.

Share

We install, maintain and repair air conditioning systems for homes, shops and service buildings. We help you choose the right equipment for the space and take care of installation and maintenance.

Main types of air-conditioning systemThree scenes, each with the outdoor unit and the indoor units: a split with one pair of pipes between one outdoor and one indoor unit; a multi-split with its own pair of pipes for each indoor unit; and a VRF with a main pair of pipes that branches out to many indoor units, like a water supply network. 1. The simplest solution: one outdoor unit for one indoor unit, connected by a pair of copper pipes. Very good value for one room.

  2. A single outdoor unit serves 2 to 5 indoor units. Each indoor unit has its own pair of copper pipes running directly to the outdoor unit, and its own controller.

  3. A single outdoor unit for many indoor units, with a main pair of pipes that branches out to each unit, like a water supply network. It takes more work (soldering and brazing), but makes sense from about 8 indoor units.

The difference is in how the piping connects the outdoor unit to the indoor units. The capacity for each room is calculated separately.

How a heat pump worksThe refrigerant circulates in a cycle. In the outdoor evaporator it absorbs heat from the air; the compressor heats it; in the condenser it gives the heat to the home's water; the expansion valve cools it and the cycle starts again. OutdoorsHomeEvaporatoroutdoor aircooler airCompressorCondenserExpansion valvecold gas, low pressurehot gas, high pressurehigh-pressure liquidcold liquidhot watercold water1 kWh of electricity → typically 3 to 4 kWh of heat
  1. The refrigerant boils at a very low temperature and absorbs heat from the outside air, even when it is cold.

  2. Compresses the gas, heating it a lot. This is the part that uses electricity.

  3. The hot gas gives its heat to the water in the tank or heating circuit and turns back into liquid.

  4. Lowers the liquid's pressure and temperature, and the cycle starts again.

A heat pump doesn't make heat: it moves it. Performance depends on the equipment, the outdoor temperature and the water temperature required.

How a heat recovery unit worksIn the loft, the unit receives cold fresh air from outside and warm indoor air extracted from the kitchen and WC. In an exchanger the two airflows swap heat without mixing: the fresh air is supplied warmed to the lounge and bedroom, and the stale air is expelled already cold. 1. The two airflows cross in thin plates, exchanging heat without mixing. It has filters and fans.

  2. Enters filtered and cold. Passing through the exchanger it picks up heat from the outgoing air.

  3. The kitchen and WC extract moisture and odours. This is where the home's heat gets recovered.

  4. Supplied to the lounge and bedrooms already close to room temperature, with no cold draughts.

  5. Leaves for the outside after giving its heat to the fresh air.

Renews the home's air without throwing the heat away. Example temperatures. Actual efficiency depends on the equipment and conditions of use.

How we can help
